The Power of Thoughts

Fresh out of university, I acted as a manager in the corporate setting. I had no leadership training or experience. The task felt heavy. When you are in the moment, it is easy to lose sight of the details; but in hindsight, I have realized that I did well in all my roles. I made mistakes but I grew through each experience.
I have outgrown that stage of my life; but as I reflect on it, I remember the moment that determined the outcome of my experience. It was the moment at the start when I told myself that ‘I am capable of doing anything’ and ‘I will always do my very best’.
My decision became a guiding light and much of my experience was directed from the faith that was planted through my commitment to those two phrases; the now popular term for which is affirmations.
With this commitment, I heavily invested in my personal development and the skills that were helpful to my roles. I didn’t second-guess my ability to perform a task. I know that I can do anything that I am fully committed to. I don’t judge myself based on age, status, experience, comparison, etc.
Though I don’t always know what to do, I know that I can learn. When I am not prepared, I can become prepared. Through challenges, I gain wisdom and strength. I know that I have a combination of skills that is unique to me, and I contribute from that place. I keep rising above circumstances simply because I believe in myself and my capabilities.
When you remove expectations, standards and labels, you see things clearly. You don’t have to live by the standards of others. Sometimes, your circumstances will simply require that you rise above them. Sometimes you either rise above or you eventually crash. If I had judged myself based on my age (and other standards), I would not have effectively functioned as a manager.
Your state of being plays a great role in how you experience life. Your thoughts hold tremendous power. A shift in your perspective can completely change the trajectory of your life.
But:
YOUR CONSCIOUS EFFORT IS REQUIRED
